Dit is een bericht van uit de vakgroep Wijsbegeerte & Moraalwetenschappen. Sinds 2023 hebben wij een nieuwe collega in de vakgroep, prof. Bouke De Vries. Sinds begin 2025 blijkt dat deze professor betrokken is in bedenkele intellectuele kringen, die onder de noemer van de pseudo-wetenschap ‘eugenetica’ artikels schrijven en conferenties organiseren die de ideologie van witte suprematie uitdragen. Uit recent onderzoek (gepubliceerd afgelopen december in Apache) blijkt dat De Vries zelf ook zulke artikels heeft gepubliceerd, zoals een artikel dat voorstelt dat de ‘genetische kwaliteit’ van de mens aan het dalen is doordat veel mensen met ‘slechte’ genen (en te weinig met ‘goede’) kinderen krijgen. In een ander artikel, gepubliceerd onder pseudoniem, argumenteert hij dat het IQ van vluchtelingen lager is en dat dit morele gevolgen heeft: staten hebben objectieve redenen om vluchtelingen dus te weigeren.
Dit bericht is om te laten weten dat alle mobilisatie onder studenten enorm behulpzaam is om ons te helpen weren tegen de groeiende invloed van dergelijke figuren in onze academische instellingen.

Prof. De Vries' laatste artikel argumenteert dat vluchtelingen over het algemeen een lager IQ hebben dan het gastland waarin ze terechtkomen (bv. Duitsland) en dat dat moreel relevant is
"not only from a statist perspective, i.e., one requiring countries to show special concern to their own populations, but also from a cosmopolitan perspective that prohibits such favoritism (cf. Blake & Smith, 2022), for refugees to have IQs1 significantly below that of the host society’s average is normatively relevant. Additionally, it shows that much more research is needed to establish Hillier-Smith’s claim that it is morally required – or even permissible – for states in the Global North, broadly defined to include North America, Europe, Israel, Australia, New Zealand, Japan, South Korea, Taiwan, Singapore, and China, to admit substantially larger numbers of such refugees from the Global South, with “larger” understood relative to the size of a country’s current population. I will contend that this is particularly true when we recognize that refusing admission does not necessarily entail neglecting these refugees’ basic interests. Rather, it may involve supporting their resettlement in a safe third country in the Global South."

"Op dag twee [van een conferentie in Boedapest] (17/8/24) trad Bouke de Vries aan met een lezing over sekseverschillen en morele status. Volgens de korte beschrijving stond De Vries stil bij een aanname die centraal staat in het feminisme en het liberalisme: de gedachte dat mannen en vrouwen een gelijke status hebben. De Vries vindt het hoog tijd om vragen te stellen bij deze aanname. Hij verwijst daarbij naar andere “factoren” die een invloed kunnen hebben, waaronder IQ."

As you know (or don't), the whole affair described below has unravelled for the past months (both in the media as internally in the Department) since prof. Bouke De Vries hired so-called "race realist" Nathan Cofnas as a researcher into the Department.
